The teenage brain
is poised and structured for the intense learning they’ll need to propel them out of childhood and into the adult world. Adolescence is a period of rapid brain development, particularly around identity. At the beginning of puberty, neurons (brain cells) are gaining and losing up to 25 percent of their connections each week. By the time we reach adulthood that number drops to 10 percent. To learn so much, so rapidly, in so many ways, requires keen attention to the people and social systems around you, as well as willingness to explore, try new things, and learn from mistakes along the way. - UCLA Center for the Developing Adolescent
Parents
may find this period of life particularly challenging to navigate with their children, but if they have a plan which they believe in, they can stick to it, even when their teen is protesting or says I hate you. There is an abundance of resources and parenting information which plants ideas in our minds of what we could do. The question is though – how does one possibly put them into practice in the heat of the moment? Tools in your pocket simply means realistic, developmentally appropriate methods that have been proven to work. These are tools to use right on the spot, when you need them most. Let’s develop a plan together.
Stephanie’s experience
includes work with children of all ages, but she has always had a specific passion for, and focus on, the teenage years. They are quite possibly her favorite. Stephanie has built and run teen residential programs for more than 10 years. Her duties included overseeing structure, discipline, and mental health. She has coached, moderated, mentored, and helped families to rebuild.
Teen Coaching Services
Stephanie has spent the largest part of her career working with teens and their families. She’s excited to bring her behavioral certification and mental health background together to create coaching services for young people. Coaching is creating an actionable plan to help your teen/young adult tackle tough spaces in relationships, behaviors, or emotions. For faith-based families or teens struggling in a relationship with God, she offers time in Bible study as a part of sessions as well. Looking to cost share? These sessions can be conducted with up to two teens at a time. I.e.: 2 teens, 1 session. This service is for ages 13+.
It’s OK to have questions or just need to chat.
